Red Sun (2022)
Made with Adobe Illustrator
Created in a Color and Concept course, I made this piece for an assignment focusing on atmospheric perspective with the caveat being we could only use one color, but as many tints and shades as we desired.
As a result, I chose red—being my favorite color, and a picture of a view from the hills of CSU East Bay. Understanding how atmospheric perspective follows a rule in which objects gain a lighter value as they increase in distance, I took a dark shade of red and over the course of several layers of the scene I had photographed, gradually adjusted the value of the color. Upon finishing the piece with a red-tinted sky, I decided to add onto the scene with clouds of an even lighter tint, and a pure-red sun that cast rays of its light down across the several layers of the scene.
